Nabresina is a special type of limestone that’s imported from quarries in Italy. It’s an extremely hardwearing stone, which makes it particularly good for two things: 1) it’s excellent at coping with the British climate, so you can expect your memorial to stand for decades and decades to come, and 2) it allows for very rich and detailed letter carving, perfect for complex inscriptions.
Nabresina gravestones come in both an off-white and light grey colour; however, one of the most unique things about its appearance is that you will often find things like shells and fossils running through it, which gives it a certain speckled quality. This makes it a very unique and sought after masonry material.
