Portland Stone Headstone & Gravestone Memorials

Traditional, sophisticated and quarried right here in the UK, Portland limestone is one of our favourite memorial materials. 

Portland stone actually gets its name from the place that it’s quarried: the Isle of Portland in Dorset. It starts life as a sort of off-white, creamy colour, but over time this begins to develop into something even more subtle, before it ultimately starts to patina. These different phases add some real character to Portland headstones, which is why we think you should certainly consider them.

Portland Craftsmanship Since 1894

At Memorial Group, we’ve been working with Portland limestone since our establishment in 1894, so you can be sure that our stonemason understands all of its quirks and properties. Our masons are well versed in deep V-carving too, so we will be able to create any sort of inscription that you might like.
